Ever since he was young, Nicholas has had a big fascination with elevators. In 2007, Nicholas was watching YouTube elevator videos posted by dieselducy, musicfreakcc, gluse, and patricknedz. On December 27 of that year, he launched his YouTube channel "CaptainElevator42189"; his first elevator he filmed was a Dover traction elevator at the Bob Bullock Museum and went live on December 30, 2007. During his early days of filming elevators, he primarily filmed elevators at the University of Texas at Austin campus, where his mother works, even though he attends Austin Community College. Nicholas then began to film elevators around all of Austin starting later in 2008. CaptainElevator42189 does collaboration videos with other elevator enthusiasts, such as JimLiElevators.
In 2010, 2011, and 2013, CaptainElevator42189 filmed elevators with dieselducy.
On March 13, 2013 (2013-03-13), 1.58 million views were lost from his channel bringing his total lifetime view down from 4.69 million to 3.12 million. Ever since that date, he has also lost a few thousand views on random days. Video deletion is surely to blame for the massive loss. As of mid-2014, he only has 3.35 million lifetime views.
